Is private equity setting the stage for technical-materials M&A?

On September **, ****, UK technical-fabrics manufacturer Nonwovenn and CorpAcq, a business-acquisition compounder backed by TDR Capital, have launched Technical Materials Group (TMG), a corporate vehicle for acquiring specialist-materials businesses across the UK, Europe and North America. TMG is an early example of private capital being directed towards specialist technical materials, including highly engineered textiles, films, composites, ceramics and laminated products, with particular interest in power and thermal management, filtration, electrification, weight reduction, activated-carbon solutions and PFAS alternatives.

The operating base and capital behind TMG

Nonwovenn provides the operating base. The Bridgwater, Somerset company increased its annual turnover from £** million (~$**.* million) in **** to £** million (~$**.* million) in **** and has recorded ** consecutive profitable years. Its activities include industrial and military filtration, protective materials, medical fabrics and oral-care pouches. CorpAcq provides the acquisition platform and has a portfolio of about ** companies. TDR Capital said CorpAcq’s adjusted EBITDA grew by ** per cent per annum over the five years to ****, reaching £*** million (~$***.* million) in the financial year ended ****. TDR Capital completed the acquisition of a majority stake in CorpAcq in February ****.
