Shreshth Kumar, a resident of Gauri Shankar Mohalla Road in Jhumri Tilaiya town, Koderma district, Jharkhand, has achieved a 99.39 percentile in JEE Mains 2026, bringing immense happiness to his family. Shreshth, son of Deepak Kumar and Shalini Prasad, credits his success to hard work, discipline, and dedication.
In an exclusive conversation with Local18, he shared that after completing his 10th grade, he decided to build a career in engineering. His dream is to study Computer Science Engineering at a reputed institute like IIT. With this ambition, he began preparing for JEE along with his studies in classes 11 and 12. He studied at Sacred Heart School in the city from class 1 to 12.
Shreshth said that his performance in the first attempt of JEE Mains, held in January 2026, was not as per his expectations. However, he did not lose hope. Instead, he treated it as a challenge, identified his shortcomings, changed his strategy, and practised rigorously. As a result, he secured an impressive 99.39 percentile in the April session.
Exam Preparation Strategy
During his preparation, he stayed completely away from social media and mobile phones. To ensure his focus remained on studies, his family fully supported him and did not provide him with a mobile phone. Even now, a landline is used at home, and only his parents use mobile phones.
He shared that he relied heavily on various books, online study materials, mock tests, and previous years’ question papers. He believes that the more mock tests a student attempts, the better the preparation becomes. According to him, mock tests not only evaluate readiness but also help identify weak areas and improve them.
Talking about his exam strategy, he said that he first attempts Chemistry, then moves to Physics, and finally solves Mathematics. This order helps him manage time efficiently and stay confident. Shrestha is now completely focused on the JEE Advanced exam scheduled for May. His goal is to score high and secure admission to an IIT in Computer Science Engineering. He also follows a routine of regular morning exercise.
Shreshth shared that he starts his day with exercise and then, after breakfast, continues with his studies. When he feels mentally exhausted after studying different subjects throughout the day, he spends time with his family to relax and refresh himself.
His father, Deepak Kumar, works in a private company and is currently posted in Bihar, while his mother, Shalini Prasad, runs a utensils shop near Bhagwati Press. Expressing their joy over their son’s achievement, his parents said that Shrestha has always been hardworking and also helps at the shop while managing his studies.
