About Jelly Roll Ups (Jello Pinwheels)

Jelly roll ups are a fun and colorful treat made with jelly crystals, marshmallows and water. It turns into a super soft and chewy snack and kids will enjoy making this recipe because it is simple, fun and looks so colorful. It is one of those easy no-bake treats that is quick to make at home.

My kids love making jelly recipes at home, especially when they get to choose their favorite jelly flavours. But after making regular jelly again and again, they started getting bored of having it.

That’s when I tried these fun jelly roll ups and they instantly loved them. They are soft, chewy, stretchy and so much fun to roll.

This is such a easy recipe to make, you just need three ingredients to make this, actually it is just two ingredients because the third ingredient is water. Since the recipe calls for marshmallow the taste will be chewy and firm jello texture which kids will love.

Ingredients

Jelly : Jelly is the main ingredient and flavoring agent used to make these colorful roll ups. You can use any flavour of your choice.

Warm water : Warm water used to dissolve the jelly crystals smoothly and even without any lumps.

Marshmallows : Marshmallows give the jelly its soft, chewy and stretchable texture. When they melt into the jelly mixture, they add sweetness and add extra chewiness.

Step by Step Pictures

1)First take a 20 cm square pan. Drizzle 1 teaspoon oil on it and brush it on all sides. Set this aside. We will use this later.

2)I used orange flavoured jello. You can use any flavour that you like.

3)Add all the content from the packet into a sauce pan.

4)add in ½ cup of warm water

5)use a whisk to mix this well. mix well till the jelly crystal is almost melted.

6)now place this on low heat and heat gently for 30 sec to 45 seconds.

7)By which time the jelly mixture should be hot and all the jello crystals should be melted.

8)While the jello mix is still hot, add in 1.5 cup of marshmallows.

9)Use a whisk to mix the marshmallow into the jello water. The heat will start to melt the marshmallows gently.

10)If you find marshmallows not melting, you can put the pan back on heat and cook it for just 10 seconds.

11)you should never cook this mixture on high heat or allow it to boil over, else you won’t be getting the beautiful two layers when you roll them. now you see the marshmallow is all melted.

12)pour this into the greased pan. It will form an inch in thickness. You don’t want it too thick, else it will be difficult to roll this later.

13)Place this in fridge and let it set for 2 hour.

14)After few hours, now the jelly is set. Run knife around the sides, to release the jello from the pan.

15)remove it carefully. if you use glass tray then it will be even more easy.

16)Now you can start rolling, when you roll the jelly will automatically stick to the marshmallow layer.

17)Roll this completely.

18)Now time to slice them. Slicing this using a knife will be hard. So use a thread to cut into slices. Just twist it around the jelly and slice at your desired thickeness.

19)Enjoy.

20)Store in fridge.

Expert Tips

  • Grease the pan that you are going to pour the jelly mixture into. It will help the jelly come out evenly without sticking.
  • Don’t overheat the marshmallows. Heat only until they start to puff up.
  • Whisk the jelly and marshmallow quickly into a smooth mixture without forming any lumps.
  • Chill the jelly for at least 1 to 2 hours before rolling.
