Kylian Mbappe failed to score from the spot for France in their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal match against Morocco on Thursday (July 9). Les Bleus were awarded a penalty for a foul on Mbappe inside Morocco’s penalty box by defender Noussair Mazraoui, but the 27-year-old forward failed to score from the spot.

Mbappe, who has scored seven goals for France in this year’s tournament, took the shot from the spot, but his tame effort was saved by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Yassine Bounou made the correct guess and moved to his left to deny Mbappe from giving France a 1-0 lead.

The clip of Mbappe’s penalty miss is now going viral on the internet.

Had Mbappe managed to score from the spot, he would have extended his tally of goals to eight in FIFA World Cup 2026 and 20 in the tournament’s history.
