Moschino parts company with Adrian Appiolaza

After two years of working together, Moschino and Adrian Appiolaza have mutually agreed to end their partnership. The maison announced the decision on Friday in a press release.

Massimo Ferretti, executive chairman of Aeffe S.p.A., thanked Adrian Appiolaza for the significant contribution he has made to Moschino’s development in recent years and wished him all the best in his future professional endeavours. 

“I was given a tremendous opportunity to express my creativity at a brand defined by an extraordinary creative heritage. I extend my gratitude to Aeffe for this chance, particularly to Massimo Ferretti, and I thank the entire creative team with whom I have shared this intense experience,” said Adrian Appiolaza. 

Adrian Appiolaza’s appointment as Moschino’s creative director marked the start of a new chapter, following a period of profound and painful upheaval for the storied Italian fashion house. The Argentine designer, in fact, inherited an emotionally complex legacy: that of Davide Renne.

A highly respected designer and a veteran of two decades of success in Gucci’s design studio, Renne had been chosen to lead the brand in the post–Jeremy Scott era. However, a sudden tragedy upended the brand’s plans: the Tuscan designer died unexpectedly in November 2023, just nine days into the role and before he could even make his catwalk debut.

Renne’s tenure was intended to represent a radical break from the preceding decade, dominated by the eclectic Jeremy Scott. From 2013 to 2023, the American designer steered Moschino into the new millennium with a blend of pop culture, irreverent humour and runway shows inspired by fast food, Barbie and cartoons, while remaining true to the nonconformist spirit of founder Franco Moschino.

Even before the Scott era, the creative helm had been in the hands of Rossella Jardini for 20 years- the founder’s long-time collaborator and right-hand woman who, since 1994, had safeguarded and preserved the house’s purest, most sartorial identity.
