Most affordable CNG SUVs with factory-fitted kit – Introduction

Rising fuel prices, coupled with the government’s push for eco-friendly transport and its clear discouragement of diesel, have significantly boosted demand for CNG vehicles (it was the second-most popular fuel type in India’s passenger vehicle market in FY2026).

In response, mass-market carmakers such as Maruti, Tata, Hyundai and Toyota have expanded their CNG portfolios, especially in the SUV space. Unlike earlier, when CNG kits were limited to bare-bones base variants, many brands now offer them across multiple trims, making feature-rich CNG SUVs more accessible. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Rs 13.38 lakh-15.34 lakh

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the rebadged version of the Maruti Grand Vitara, and it offers a CNG powertrain choice in the S and G variants. The Hyryder CNG has a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission (MT), producing 88hp and 121.5Nm. It has a claimed mileage of 26.6km/kg. The Hyryder, however, is the most expensive midsize CNG SUV on this list.  

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

Rs 13 lakh-14.75 lakh

The mid-spec trims of the Maruti Grand Vitara – Delta and Zeta – come with the CNG option. The Grand Vitara CNG has the same 88hp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine as the Hyryder, and it returns a mileage of 26.6km/kg. Like the Hyryder, the Vitara SUV has a 55-litre (water-equivalent) CNG tank.

Maruti Suzuki Victoris

Rs 11.5 lakh-14.72 lakh

The new Maruti Victoris offers a CNG powertrain in three variants: LXI, VXI and ZXI. Like the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, the Victoris uses the same 1.5-litre engine paired to a 5MT unit. However, the Victoris returns a relatively higher 27.07km/kg mileage figure. Unlike the other two Maruti and Toyota SUVs, the Victoris comes with an underbody CNG fuel tank with a capacity of 55 litres.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza 

Excluding the top-spec ZXI+ variant, the rest of the Maruti Brezza variants – LXI, VXI, and ZXI – can be had with a CNG kit. Like the Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris, the compact SUV packs an 88hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed MT. Maruti Brezza CNG is fitted with a 55-litre tank, and it has an ARAI-rated mileage of 25.51km/kg.

Tata Nexon

Rs 8.3 lakh-13.22 lakh

The Tata Nexon is the only SUV here to pair a CNG setup with a turbocharged petrol engine. The Brezza rival uses Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder tech with a 60-litre capacity. Nexon CNG comes in Smart, Smart+, Smart+ S, Pure+, Pure+ S, Pure+ PS, Creative, Creative+ S, Creative+ PS and Fearless+ PS trims. Its 1.2-litre engine with 6MT makes 100hp and 170Nm in CNG mode and delivers 24km/kg ARAI-rated mileage.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor 

Rs 8.24 lakh

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Taisor is based on the Maruti Fronx, with a CNG kit offered only on the range-starting E variant. The Taisor CNG is run by a 77.5hp, 98.5Nm 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has a 28.51km/kg mileage (claimed by the brand) and a 55-litre CNG tank.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Rs 7.79 lakh-8.59 lakh

The Maruti Fronx sub-4-metre SUV offers a CNG kit in the base Sigma variant and the higher-positioned Delta, which comes with an extended list of features. This contrasts with the Toyota Taisor SUV, which offers a CNG kit only in the entry-level variant. The Fronx CNG comes with the same 77.5hp, 1.2-litre engine and boasts the same 28.51km/kg mileage figure.

Hyundai Exter

Rs 7 lakh-9.41 lakh

The Hyundai Exter, the carmaker’s smallest SUV, is sold with a 60-litre dual-cylinder tank setup. Save for the mid-spec HX4+ and the top-spec HX10, the CNG kit is available on every other trim of the Exter. Under the hood, the Exter SUV has a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine pushing out 69hp and 95.2Nm that’s mated to a 5MT unit. It has a claimed mileage of 27.1km/kg.

Tata Punch 

Rs 6.75 lakh-10.6 lakh

The Tata Punch is the most affordable CNG SUV currently available in India. The Punch is equipped with the brand’s twin-cylinder tech with a total capacity of 60 litres. CNG variants of the Tata Punch include Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure and Accomplished. The Pure+ and Adventure trims offer both sunroof and non-sunroof options. The SUV has a 74hp, 103Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Punch is also the only automatic CNG SUV currently available in the market. Its mileage is 26.99km/kg (ARAI).
