Averaged over the past three months, the number of people outside the labour force fell by 2,000 per month, although the total has remained around 3.2 million since the start of 2023. The number of people employed has hovered around 9.8 million for almost three years, CBS said in a press release.
The Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) recorded 197,100 recipients of WW unemployment benefit at the end of September, a month-on-month rise of 1.2 per cent. During the month, 24,600 new people were granted unemployment benefit and 22,200 benefits were terminated.
Netherlands’ unemployment stood at 408,000 in September, while 3.2 million people were outside the labour force as they were not seeking work or not immediately available.
UWV recorded 197,100 WW unemployment benefit recipients at month-end, up 1.2 per cent month-on-month.
Unemployment rose by an average 5,000 a month over the past three months as more people became unemployed than found work.
Two labour-market movements added to unemployment in September: Over 124,000 employed people lost their jobs and 123,000 people who had previously been unavailable for work decided to seek work. People in these groups become part of the unemployed labour force if they do not find work immediately; together, these movements accounted for 247,000 unemployed people in September.
Movements in the opposite direction reduced unemployment. In September, 140,000 unemployed people found work, while 92,000 stopped seeking work and left the labour market. In all, 232,000 people who had been unemployed three months earlier were no longer unemployed in September. After rising from the start of the year to 262,000 in April, the number in these two categories declined, CBS said.
The number of unemployed people rose by an average of 5,000 per month over the past three months because more people became unemployed than found work, the release added.
