South India cotton yarn prices steady as demand stays weak

South Indian cotton yarn continues to see sluggish demand. Prices remained stable in Mumbai and Tiruppur amid weaker demand. Buyers increasingly shifted towards polyester and polyester-cotton yarns due to relatively high cotton yarn prices. Traders said the seasonal shift, weak garment exports from India, slower fabric lifting and expectations of a price correction were keeping buyers cautious and limiting fresh purchases.

Cotton yarn prices remained stable amid slow demand. Buyers are shifting towards polyester and polyester-cotton yarns instead of cotton yarn. This is a normal seasonal shift, as cotton yarn loses its appeal due to higher prices. A trader from the Mumbai market told Fibre*Fashion, “Demand for cotton yarn remains very slow, particularly for carded counts. The market trend has shifted towards PC and polyester yarns, while demand for cotton yarn has dried up. Another factor is that buyers are waiting for a correction in yarn prices. Buyers are largely restricting purchases to immediate requirements and avoiding fresh inventory. Unless cotton yarn prices soften, demand is likely to remain subdued in the near term.”
