UPSC Success Story: The UPSC Civil Services Examination (UPSC) is considered one of the toughest exams in India. It demands immense dedication, as candidates must work extremely hard to become IAS, IPS, and IFS officers. While the primary goal of most candidates is often to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), some candidates, despite securing high ranks, choose the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). One such candidate is Vidushi Singh, who cleared the UPSC CSE 2022 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 13.

A native of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Singh was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She completed her graduation from Delhi University and passed UPSC civil services examination in her very first attempt at the age of 21. She did not take any coaching for the civil services examination. She began preparing for UPSC in 2020 while still in college. In 2021, she obtained a BA (Honours) in Economics from the renowned Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University.

Vidushi Singh cracked the UPSC exam without any coaching assistance. During her graduation, she built a strong foundation by thoroughly studying NCERT books and other basic texts. After this, she realised that coaching was not necessary for her. Instead, she joined several test series and mock tests from June 2021 to December 2021. She appeared for the UPSC CSE 2022 and secured a place in the final list with a total score of 1039. She scored 184 marks in the interview round. Economics was her optional subject.

Among the top 51 candidates in the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2022, nine were allocated to the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). These were: Mayur Hazarika (5th rank), Gahana Navya James (6th rank), Vidushi Singh (13th rank), Pourush Sood (29th rank), Anup Das (38th rank), Shubham (41st rank), Archit Goyal (43rd rank), Manan Agarwal (46th rank), and Sparsh Yadav (51st rank). The service allotted to a candidate in the CSE is determined by their rank, their order of preference, their category (such as General, OBC, SC, ST, among others), and the availability of vacancies in their preferred category.
