Temperature: Mercury Dips Below 40 Degrees C Again | Nagpur News



Nagpur: The unusual chill in the air was back on Monday after spells of cool winds and rain brought down the maximum temperature to 33 degrees Celsius, a departure of -8.3 notches from normal. This was the second occasion in the past 15 days when the maximum temperature fell drastically below normal after April 7’s drop of -7 degree Celsius. Gusty winds brought down some trees too.
At 26 degrees Celsius, Gondia recorded the lowest maximum temperature in Maharashtra, even beating the hill station town of Mahabaleshwar which was still warmer at 31.5 degrees Celsius.On April 7, Nagpur’s maximum temperature too was lower than Mahabaleshwar.
While the eastern end of Vidarbha posted the lowest maximum temperature in state, the western part comprising Washim was sizzling at 42.2 (3 deg above normal).
Gondia received 10mm rainfall followed by Nagpur 3mm and Amravati 1mm. Except Washim, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, all districts in Vidarbha recorded temperature in 33 to 38 degrees C.
Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds occurred at isolated places over Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia, Nagpur, and Wardha.
Light to moderate rainfall too occurred at many places over Chandrapur, at few places over Gadchiroli, at isolated places over Gondia, Bhandara, Yavatmal, Wardha and Nagpur districts.
Firefighters from Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s fire and emergency services department responded to at least four calls related to tree felling in different parts of the city, including one at a house in Adarsh Colony, Trimurti Nagar. Fortunately, no one was injured in any of these these incidents.
The first tree was uprooted in the state government’s housing colony near Ambazari police station. There, firefighters also rescued a cow that had fallen into a nullah.
Another tree fell on busy Central Avenue near Dalvi Hospital at Telephone Exchange Square, which was promptly removed by firefighters.
Similar calls were attended to in Adarsh Nagar, where a large tree fell over a house. Firefighters from Trimurti Nagar fire station swiftly responded to this incident.
Firefighters from the Civil Lines station removed another uprooted tree between Rahate Colony Road and ITI on Deekshabhoomi Road on Monday evening.
