The Justice Department said on Monday (June 1, 2026) it will abide by a court ruling temporarily freezing a $1.8 billion compensation package that critics have denounced as a “slush fund” for U.S. President Donald Trump’s political allies.

The move comes amid U.S. media reports that the Trump administration plans to drop plans for the fund, which has come in for criticism by Democrats and some members of Trump’s Republican Party.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema barred the administration last week from taking any further action to create or operate the fund ahead of a June 12 court hearing.
