NEET UG 2026 Re-exam
UGC-NET 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has ordered a fresh examination for the English, Commerce and Sociology papers of UGC-NET June 2026 after a review panel found multiple issues in the question papers. The decision came after candidates raised concerns about the quality of the papers.
In its announcement, the NTA said an expert committee examined the complaints and identified “substantive issues”. These included factual and typographical mistakes, translation errors, missing names of scholars, garbled book titles and problems with the wording of questions.
The review also flagged grammatical and numerical errors, unclear answer options, non-standard terminology used for established concepts and repetition of questions or options. The NTA said the scale of the problems meant they could not be addressed simply by dropping the affected questions during the answer-key process.
UGC-NET Re-Exam Dates
The three papers will now be conducted again on the following dates:
English: September 9, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM
Commerce: September 9, 2026, from 3 PM to 6 PM
Sociology: September 10, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM
Candidates will not have to pay an additional examination fee for the re-conducted exams. Details of examination centres and admit cards will be announced separately by the NTA.
When Was UGC-NET June 2026 Conducted?
The June session examination was held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode between June 22 and June 30, 2026, with the examination covering 87 subjects. The test determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions and PhD admission.
What Happens To The Other 84 Subjects?
The re-examination will not affect the result process for the remaining 84 subjects. The NTA has already started the provisional answer-key challenge process for these subjects, and their results, JRF allocation and e-certificates will be processed as scheduled.
For the three subjects being re-conducted, the NTA has also clarified that the number of candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor eligibility will be calculated using 6% of the candidates who appeared in the June examination or the re-examination, whichever is higher. Subject-wise and category-wise allocation for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admission will follow the prescribed UGC-NET rules.
