Rishikanta Singh Chanambam lifted a total of 264 kg on Sunday (July 26) to win the silver medal for India in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. The Indian weightlifter lifted 116 kg, 119 kg, and 121 kg in his three attempts in the snatch category and 143 kg in his first clean and jerk attempt to secure a podium finish.

Rishikanta attempted 148 kg and 151 kg in his second and third clean and jerk attempts, respectively, but failed to complete either lift.

He finished behind Bin Kasdan Mohamad Anio of Malaysia, who lifted a total of 273 kg (121 kg in the snatch and 152 kg in the clean and jerk) to win his second consecutive Commonwealth Games weightlifting gold medal.

Bin Kasdan Mohamad Anio had previously won the gold medal for Malaysia in the men’s 55kg category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Rishikanta, who hails from Manipur, lifted 121 kg in his third snatch attempt on Sunday, and the effort helped him break the Commonwealth Games record in the snatch.

Meanwhile, Bin Kasdan Mohamad Anio won the gold on Sunday with a new Commonwealth Games record total of 273 kg. He lifted 145 kg, 149 kg, and 152 kg in his three clean and jerk attempts after matching Rishikanta’s 121 kg lift in the snatch.

Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Mboya claimed the bronze with a total of 260kg (115kg snatch + 145kg clean and jerk).
