What factors are lifting cotton prices in Brazil?

Cotton prices in Brazil rose in early August as firm seller positions and higher international prices pushed domestic values closer to export parity, while limited liquidity persisted amid difficulties for buyers and sellers to agree on prices and quality.

The CEPEA/ESALQ Cotton Index increased 0.31 per cent between July 31 and August 17, reaching BRL 4.2171 per pound on August 17, according to the Sau Paulo’s Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (CEPEA).

The combination of tighter global supply expectations, firm international prices and seller resistance is supporting Brazilian cotton prices, although trading activity remains constrained by differences over prices and quality.
