Yuvraj Singh distances himself from father Yograj’s attacks, offers apology to Kapil Dev & MS Dhoni says, ‘Have told dad that…’ | Cricket News

India’s legendary two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has officially distanced himself from the long-standing verbal attacks launched by his father, Yograj Singh. In a significant move to mend relations with two of India’s most iconic cricket captains, Yuvraj has expressed a deep desire to apologize to both Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni for the years of disparaging comments made against them by his father.

Breaking the Silence on Family Controversy
For over a decade, Yograj Singh has frequently targeted MS Dhoni in the media, blaming the former captain for Yuvraj’s exclusion from the national side. While Yuvraj has historically avoided commenting on these outbursts, a newly released teaser for an upcoming podcast on Sports Tak shows the former all-rounder finally addressing the friction.

In the preview of the episode, Yuvraj clearly states:

“I would like to apologise to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.”

The teaser also highlights Yuvraj’s personal attempts to curb his father’s outspoken nature. When questioned about whether his father’s erratic public statements cause him pain, Yuvraj revealed that he has confronted him directly.

“I have told dad that it’s not ok,” he noted, referring to the frequent outlandish claims Yograj makes regarding various figures in the cricketing world.

The Grudge Against Kapil Dev
While Yograj’s animosity toward Dhoni is well-documented, he recently shifted his focus back to 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. Yograj continues to harbor a grievance stemming from his own removal from the Indian team in the early 1980s, an event he blames entirely on Kapil. In a startling revelation, Yograj claimed he once went to Kapil’s residence with a firearm to confront him over the alleged sabotage of his career. For his part, Kapil Dev has largely ignored the provocation, at one point dismissively asking, “Who is Yograj Singh?”

The Evolution of the Dhoni Conflict
Interestingly, Yograj’s stance on MS Dhoni has recently shown signs of softening. This change followed a public clarification from former BCCI Chairman of Selectors Sandeep Patil, who confirmed that the decision to move on from Yuvraj Singh was a collective call by the selection committee based on performance, rather than a personal demand from Dhoni.

Yuvraj himself has previously credited Dhoni for providing him with necessary professional honesty. During his final international comeback in 2017, it was Dhoni who reportedly informed Yuvraj that the team management was looking toward younger prospects for the future. This transparency ultimately helped Yuvraj find the clarity needed to announce his retirement in 2019.

The full interview is expected to feature Yuvraj’s insights on several current stars and emerging talents.
