Zachary Bolduc Signs Four-Year Contract With Montreal Canadiens | NHL

Zachary Bolduc has signed a four-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the deal Sunday, giving Montreal another young forward under contract ahead of the new season. Bolduc spent his first season with the Canadiens after joining the team from the St. Louis Blues in a trade last summer. The 23-year-old was coming off his entry-level contract and entered the offseason as a restricted free agent. Montreal will now have Bolduc back in its lineup as he looks to build on his first year with the team.

Zachary Bolduc Has Another Chance To Show His Potential In Montreal 

Bolduc’s new contract is worth $16.8 million, according to Friedman, with an annual cap hit of $4.2 million. The deal comes after he completed his entry-level contract and gives Montreal control of the forward through the 2029-30 season.

The 23-year-old recorded 12 goals and 30 points in 78 games during his first season with the Canadiens. He then added three goals and seven points in 19 playoff games. His regular season numbers were not as strong as Montreal would have hoped, but his play improved late in the year and carried into the playoffs. His 30 points ranked ninth on the Canadiens.

The Canadiens acquired Bolduc from the Blues on July 1, 2025, sending defenseman Logan Mailloux to St. Louis. Bolduc had scored 19 goals in 72 games with the Blues before the trade, but his first year in Montreal was less consistent.

Montreal Canadiens Add Bolduc While Still Looking At Arber Xhekaj

Montreal will want to see Bolduc become more consistent and take another step as a top-six winger. He turned 23 in February and will be 27 when this deal ends, making him an unrestricted free agent at that point.

The Bolduc deal also leaves the Canadiens with limited cap space. According to PuckPedia, Montreal has  roughly $3.4 million remaining, while another reports around $4.3 million with a 22-man roster. Restricted free agent defenseman Arber Xhekaj is still unsigned.

The signing comes soon after Montreal brought in Chris Kreider on a one-year deal. Before Bolduc was signed, Eric Engels reported that Kreider’s contract would still leave the Canadiens enough room to sign Bolduc and/or Xhekaj and make other moves. With Bolduc now under contract, Montreal can turn its attention to Xhekaj and the rest of its offseason plans.
