WAVES 2025: Bhumi Pednekar hopes that Ranbir Kapoor-Sai Pallavi-Yash starrer Ramayana can be a game-changer: “It’ll be a visual spectacle; will bring a lot of business to our country”

Bhumi Pednekar said, “The kind of breakthrough that’s happening in the field of technology in India is incredible. We are about to produce one of our most expensive films, Ramayana, which is also going to be a visual spectacle. It is going to bring a lot of business to our country.”

She added, “India truly is brilliant with VFX. Unfortunately, most of it is done for international projects and not for our films. But I feel that if something happens like what happened with Baahubali, it’ll be incredible.”

Bhumi Pednekar revealed, “A few days ago, I interacted with somebody in the Japanese government. The first thing he told me was, ‘I loved RRR’! He asked me, ‘The iconic fight scene at the beginning of the film; was it shot in Film City?’. I replied, ‘No, that was not Mumbai. It was shot in Hyderabad’. Hence, that impact does exist and it is very, very deep!”

She stated, “When sarso ke khet is shown in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), there are enough people coming to India to get pictures clicked (at that place); social media is a great example to see that happening. Even when we travel abroad, we go to places like the Harry Potter attractions. A lot of these theme parks are also being introduced to India. Merchandising is also a great way of taking a bit of that country’s cinema back and creating that fan base and fandom.”

She ended her answer by remarking, “What’s incredible is that people want to click pictures even outside the houses of Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. This is a soft power that we have as an industry and even India has.”
