Former Minister and BJP leader, Gali Janardhana Reddy, representing Gangavati in the Legislative Assembly, has been disqualified from the House following his conviction by the court of Principal Special Judge for CBI cases in Hyderabad.

Mr. Reddy’s disqualification came into effect from May 6, 2025 in terms of the provisions of Article 191 (1) (e) of the Constitution of India read with section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The disqualification would continue for a six-year period since his release, unless the conviction is stayed by a competent court, according to a notification issued by the Assembly secretary, M.K. Vishalakshi.

A CBI Special Court in Hyderabad on May 6, 2025 awarded seven-year imprisonment to four persons, including Mr. Reddy and his relative B.V. Srinivas Reddy, managing director, Obulapuram Mining Corporation, in a case of illegal mining in Anantapur district of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

The case was registered by the CBI nearly 16 years ago.
