Isha Ambani is back with yet another iconic look at the Met Gala. The style icon, who has been attending ‘fashion’s biggest night’ for many consecutive years, delivers each time — and this time it was no different.
In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Tailored for You,’ the mother of two opted for a custom Anamika Khanna look. “We used a little bit of semi-precious stones, some traditional pearl work, and drew inspiration from Black dandy style—the small elements they incorporated, the reasons behind their choices,” the designer told Vogue India.
Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, the outfit—a white embroidered corset, black tailored pants, and a white floor-grazing cape—reportedly took 20,000 hours to embroider. Allowing the bespoke outfit to do all the talking, Isha ditched earrings but wore multiple neckpieces and rings to complete her look. Her soft makeup and neatly tied braid added the perfect finishing touches. In some pictures, she was also seen wearing a white hat.
But the highlight of Isha’s look seemed to be the diamond necklace she was spotted wearing. While some netizens argued that it once belonged to the Maharaja of Nawanagar and was also seen in the movie Ocean’s 8, others contended that it belongs to her mother, Nita Ambani.
Last year, Isha wore a hand-embroidered couture sari gown by designer Rahul Mishra, who told indianexpress.com that her outfit, “titled ‘River of Life’, represents the philosophy of time acting as a medium that carries with itself constant change and evolution.” “We have cultivated this look in the way a gardener would a garden. Motifs and embroidery swatches from our entire journey since 2013 were brought out to be reinterpreted and collated to form the surfaces on this gown. Just in the way some trees would take decades to flower and bear fruit while others may bloom within weeks, I feel that this look becomes a culmination of our entire body of work,” he added.
Also styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, the outfit depicted “nature’s glorious and bountiful lifecycle…which took over 10,000 hours to complete,” as shared by the stylist on her Instagram.
This year, other celebrities walking the Met Gala carpet include Shah Rukh Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, mother-to-be Kiara Advani, Mona Patel, Natasha Poonawalla, and designers Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
