Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz moved into the final of the French Open 2025 following the withdrawal of Lorenzo Mussetti midway through the semifinal clash between the duo on Friday.

Alcaraz led 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-0, 2-0 before Musetti pulled out of the game on Court Philippe Chatrier due to a thigh injury.

“It’s not great to win a match like this. Lorenzo is a great player,” Alcaraz said following the conclusion of the game.

“I wish him all the best, and wish him a quick recovery and hope to see him soon on the court.”

“The first two sets were really tough,” the Spaniard continued.

Musseti reflected on an incredible showing against the holder before it was agonisingly cut short with the 22-year-old opting to retire from the contest.

“When I won the second set, I was relieved. Then in the third set, I knew what I had to do. I knew I could push him to the limit by just keep being aggressive.”

“I managed to be myself, be more calm, I could see much clearer and play great tennis,” the 22-year-old added.

“I think today that this probably the best match of these three matches that we played. I think today I was playing in the right way, and he was struggling sometimes,” Musetti said.

“At the end if I have to analyse those two sets, they were really, really great sets. Of course the third one and let’s say the last two games, there was of course no chance to play at his level with this problem,” the Italian added.

“It was an unlucky situation,” the 23-year-old added.

“I start to feel like the beginning of the fourth that I couldn’t go for the rallies, and I could not move like I was doing before,” he elucidated.

“There was too much risk, you know, to take to go forward and to, you know, to be able to of course show something even for the crowd,” he signed off.
