Tension escalated at Delhi Public School (DPS), Dwarka, with several parents alleging that the school has warned them their children could be removed from the rolls amid an ongoing dispute over what they describe as an arbitrary “fee hike”. According to the parents, they have been asked to secure clearances from the school’s administrative and accounts departments by April 7, failing which their wards risk being struck off the rolls, reported The Times of India.
In protest, a group of parents reportedly gathered outside the school gate on Wednesday, staging a silent demonstration and calling the move abrupt and unjust.
Parents claim the situation unfolded inconsistently. Initially, students were allowed to attend classes without any indication of punitive action. However, they later received emails stating that their children’s names had been removed from the school rolls.
One parent, as per TOI, said that despite seeking clarity, they were not given a satisfactory explanation. The parent also pointed out that a court order prohibits discrimination against students over pending fees, yet no justification was provided by the school administration.
The notice issued by the school refers to an earlier show-cause notice dated March 25, and states that the responses submitted by parents regarding unpaid fees up to the academic year 2025-26 were found unsatisfactory. It adds that the outstanding dues remain unpaid. The notice further specifies that the students’ names will be struck off from April 7 under Rule 35 of the Delhi School Education Act and Rules, 1973, and asks parents to obtain necessary departmental clearances before that date.
Concerned by the developments, parents said they approached the Directorate of Education (DoE) on Tuesday, seeking urgent intervention. They estimate that around 30 students have been affected, leading to significant anxiety among families. Another parent reportedly said that complaints have already been filed with the relevant authorities, along with submission of supporting documents, including the court order. The parent added that it is now up to the authorities to ensure compliance.
In a joint statement, parents argued that the school’s action goes against the Delhi High Court’s orders as well as its interim directions. They maintained that threatening to remove students over non-payment of increased fees contradicts the court’s clear directive that students should not face segregation or denial of access to school facilities on such grounds.
The parents also asserted that they have adhered to the High Court’s directions issued in May 2025. As per those directions, students were to be allowed to continue their education during the pendency of the case, provided parents paid 50% of the hiked fee from the 2024–25 academic session onwards, along with the full base fee. The court had also ordered that any excess fee collected for 2023–24 be adjusted in accordance with a DoE order dated May 22, 2024.
