India’s women’s compound archery team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeat China to win gold and bag the country’s 53rd medal.

India’s women’s compound archery team produced a brilliant performance to edge past China and defend their Asian Games gold medal with a world-record score in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday.
The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep dominated the final, outclassing China 238-234 to clinch the gold medal and top the podium.
The Indians equalled Korea’s world record in achieving the feat.
China’s trio of Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei claimed the silver medal, while South Korea’s Park Jungyoon, Park Yerin and Kang Yeonseo beat Chinese Taipei to bag bronze.
The Indian trio brought their ‘A’ game to the fore in the final, taking the opening end 60-58 after finding perfection with a series of perfect 10s.
The defending champions maintained their dominance, winning the second end 60-58 to extend their lead before taking a 178-176 advantage into the final end.
China buckled under pressure with two 9s, while India delivered another flawless round with six perfect 10s to defend their title and equal the world record.
It was India’s seventh gold medal in the ongoing edition.
India had beaten South Korea 234-233 to reach the final at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park in Nagoya.
The Indian women’s compound team had won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. India had won five gold medals in archery at the last edition.
“We pushed each other and kept telling each other that we have to give our best. Even if we had one bad shot, a nine score, we kept bucking each other up and saying, ‘Get back to what you know best and keep focusing on that,” Prithika said while speaking to PTI.
“I know it is a big tournament, but at the end of the day it is the same people; it is the same archery that I have to shoot. So I was just focusing on that, to be honest,” Prithika added.
