Parul Chaudhary wins Bronze in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase on Sunday with her personal best time of 9.08.67.

Parul Chaudhary won Bronze in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase on Sunday (September 27) with her personal best time of 9.08.67 to make it 36 medals for India at the Asian Games 2026.
Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi won gold in 9:04.36, while Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto Tanui took silver in 9:06.82. Ankita, the other Indian in the field, finished fourth with 9:19.24, which is her personal best too.
Parul stayed with the leading group from the start and was in contention for silver at the halfway mark. However, she could not sustain her position and finished 2.46 seconds behind Kazakhstan’s Norah Tanui, who claimed silver in 9:06.82.
The bronze was Parul’s third Asian Games medal. She had earlier won gold in the 5000m and silver in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
All About Parul Chaudhary
Chaudhary is one of India’s leading middle- and long-distance runners, specialising in the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m events. Born in Iklauta village in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, she comes from a farming family and began her athletics journey by competing barefoot in school events.
She initially competed in the 800m before moving to the 1500m, 3000m and 5000m. She later took up the 3000m steeplechase. Her consistent performances earned her a place with the Western Railway in Mumbai in 2015, allowing her to pursue athletics professionally.
Parul enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2023. She won gold in the 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok and set a national record of 9:15.31 at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. She also won gold in the 5000m and silver in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
She represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics and was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police with the Uttar Pradesh Police. In 2025, she twice improved the national steeplechase record to 9:12.46 and won two silver medals at the Asian Athletics Championships.
In 2026, she set a new 5000m national record of 15:04.26.
