Babar Azam frustrated over his dismissal in domestic cricket© AFP | Video Grab
Pakistan cricketing stalwart Babar Azam returned to domestic cricket, hoping to regain some form ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka. Playing for Lahore Whites against FATA in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, however, Babar could only register scores of 28 and 42, showing there’s still some work to be done before the veteran batter hits peak form. After his dismissal in the second innings, Babar was even seen smashing his bat on the ground as he walked back to the dressing room in frustration.
Babar was batting on 42 off 77 balls when he got out. FATA bowler Shahid Aziz delivered a length ball that nipped away. Babar would’ve been safe had he left the ball, but he decided to follow it, even though it was bowled in the 7th or 8th stump region. The Pakistan Test captain played away from his body and edged it to first slip.

As for the match, Lahore Whites won the toss and chose to field first. FATA capitalised on the opportunity by posting a formidable total of 362 all out in 84.1 overs, anchored by a patient and resilient 115 off 311 balls from Fawad Arshad.
In response, Lahore Whites struggled to build substantial partnerships and were bowled out for 234 in 49.2 overs, with Ali Zaryab providing the primary resistance by top-scoring with 51 runs.
FATA Region then asserted their dominance in their second innings, adding another 283 all out in 59.1 overs, powered by a brilliant, commanding century (123 off 191 balls) from Mohammad Farooq.
Lahore were then bowled out for just 170 runs, suffering a defeat by 241 runs, with wicket-keeper batter Zain Bin Farooq emerging as the top-scoring batter with a score of 44 runs.
With Pakistan’s first match of the Test series against Sri Lanka starting on November 09, skipper Babar Azam would not have the opportunity to work on his game in domestic cricket. It’s all about the application on the ground as the two sides square off in Rawalpindi.
