GV Prakash had travelled to Ayodhya for the launch of ‘Awadhiya Ke Raja’, a song from his recently released Hindi film Nayyi Navelli, starring Yami Gautam. His first visit to the city became even more memorable when he received the call inviting him to sing for Ramayana.

He said, “The moment I came back from Ayodhya, I sang a song for Ramayana. It was surreal. I never expected that,” he said. Recalling how the opportunity came about, he added, “I didn’t know beforehand. While I was coming back from the airport, I got a call from AR Rahman asking me to come and sing.”

GV Prakash Kumar, who is AR Rahman’s maternal nephew, began his musical journey as a child singer in his uncle’s compositions before establishing himself as a composer and singer. However, his association with Ramayana was specifically as a vocalist. He also disclosed that he has lent his voice to Yash’s character, Ravana, adding another detail to his involvement in the film.

Reflecting on the opportunity, GV Prakash said, “The world of the film is what drives us to it. I’m happy to have done a small part in the film. I’m a singer; I was called to sing for Ramayana. It was a huge thing for me to be part of this film,” he said.

The musician also spoke about his first visit to Ayodhya, which had taken place just before the recording opportunity came his way. Explaining why the team chose the city for the song launch, he said, “We launched the song in Ayodhya, so we thought it would be special to go there and launch it. It was my first time in Ayodhya, and it was very special for me to be there,” he said.

During the conversation, GV Prakash also discussed his approach to composing music for films, explaining that the script and the filmmaker’s vision guide his decisions about the sound. “First, it’s the genre, then the story, and then the sound. The sound is derived from the script. The first narration is very important because that’s where we decide the sound, its structure and the sound world of the film,” he explained.

His association with Hindi cinema includes projects such as Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur and Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, followed by Nayyi Navelli. He also expressed admiration for composer Hans Zimmer, naming him as someone he would like to collaborate with. With Zimmer involved in the music of Ramayana, GV Prakash’s singing contribution brings him into the musical world of a project connected to that aspiration.

Meanwhile, the second trailer for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 was unveiled in Bengaluru on October 15. The promo features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, who vows to destroy evil, while Yash’s Ravana declares himself the ruler of the three realms. It also offers glimpses of Sai Pallavi as Sita and Jatayu’s attempt to stop Ravana.
