About Jackfruit Appam
Jackfruit appam, also known as chakka paniyaram, is an authentic Kerala snack made when fresh jackfruit is in season. If you are into more Kerala snack recipes, check my Pazham pori, Unniyappam, Nei Appam and this Unnakaya.
Unlike some traditional appam recipes that involve soaking and grinding rice, this instant version comes together with simple ingredients and needs very little preparation.
To make this appam, jackfruit is pureed and mixed with rice flour, jaggery, coconut, all purpose flour and a few other ingredients to make a thick batter. The batter is then poured into an appam or paniyaram pan and cooked until golden on both sides.
You can make these for evening snacks, festive occasions or whenever you have some ripe jackfruit at home. These jackfruit appams taste delicious when served warm with a cup of tea or coffee.
