The Japanese brand Muji, renowned for its homeware as well as minimalist fashion, is preparing to open a summer pop-up near the Palais Royal. Running from June 20 to July 5, the temporary space will be housed at Espace Molière, 40 rue de Richelieu in Paris’s 1st arrondissement, in an eighteenth-century mansion where Molière once lived.

Muji will present its range of everyday items, furniture, fashion, stationery, cosmetics, luggage, and food. The ground floor of the building will be arranged in the style of a Japanese neighbourhood shop, featuring groceries and other daily essentials. The first floor, meanwhile, will take the form of a fully furnished apartment- with living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom- each room containing its designated items, all bearing the Muji label.
This new pop-up appears to be paving the way for the opening of the brand’s future flagship store in the French capital, on Rue de Rivoli. Spanning 2,700 square metres, it will crown nearly 30 years of Muji in France, surpassing the Forum des Halles shop in size. Nor is Paris the only city where Muji is expanding its presence. The brand is pursuing an international retail expansion strategy, exemplified by the very recent opening of its first location in Queens, at Tangram Mall in New York, covering 3,650 square metres.
