NEET SS 2025: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has reduced the minimum qualifying percentile for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Super Specialties (NEET-SS) 2025 from the earlier 50th percentile to the 30th percentile. The move follows a September 19, 2026, Supreme Court order permitting a reduction in the qualifying percentile to help fill vacant super-specialty seats. NBEMS has shared the revised results with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

Under the revised criteria, candidates who scored 30 percentile or above in their respective NEET-SS 2025 question paper group have been declared qualified and will be eligible to participate in the counselling process.

1,857 Super-Specialty Seats Remained Vacant

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that 1,857 super-specialty seats remained vacant after the second round of counselling. Following this, the qualifying percentile was agreed to be reduced to 30 for the proposed special stray vacancy round.

The revised cut-off scores vary across question paper groups. The highest revised cut-off is 325 marks for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology group, while the lowest is 175 marks for the Medical group.

NEET-SS Rank Will Remain Unchanged

NBEMS has clarified that the reduction in the qualifying percentile will not affect candidates’ existing group-wise ranks. The ranking will continue to be based on the NEET-SS 2025 examination held on January 23, 2026.

Candidates will not receive fresh scorecards following the revision. The marks submitted by candidates for their MBBS professional examinations will also be verified against original documents by the counselling or admission authority during the admission process.

NBEMS has further cautioned that if a candidate provided incorrect information in the application form and that information was subsequently used for tie-breaking in the NEET-SS rank, the candidature may be cancelled.

The reduction in the qualifying percentile is expected to expand the pool of eligible candidates for the special stray vacancy round and help fill the remaining super-specialty seats.
