Shahi Exports, one of India’s largest apparel exporters, works with several named brands such as Walmart, Gap, Nike and Uniqlo and has been heavily focusing on investments tied to sustainability to ensure that, as global changes take effect, it is able to bring about the changes at the earliest.
Anant Ahuja, director ESG & Sustainability at Shahi Exports, said in an interview with Fibre*Fashion that less than one per cent of clothes were being recycled today. “So that means circularity does not even exist. But if you talk about circularity more broadly, which is, it is not just recycling of material, (but) like for a circular system, you need sustainable dyes, you need water reduction, you need renewable energy, you need workers being treated well,” Ahuja mentioned.
