Parents of late student Sahil Wakode have been demanding the arrest of Professor Doolla, booked for abetment to suicide, and IIT Bombay Director Kedare.

The parents of IIT-Bombay student Sahil Wakode continued their hunger strike at Azad Maidan for the third consecutive day on Wednesday (September 30, 2026), demanding the arrest of Professor Suryanarayana Doolla and IIT-Bombay Director Shireesh Kedare in connection with their son’s death.
Several workers of the Mumbai Youth Congress and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) joined Ravindra and Sonali Wakode at the protest site on Wednesday (September 30, 2026). Protesters held photographs of Sahil and raised slogans demanding justice for him.
Ravindra Wakode declined to speak to the media on Wednesday (September 30, 2026). The family’s lawyer, however, said they had not received any response from the government so far regarding their demands. The family has maintained that it will continue the protest until action is taken.
Sahil, a second-year BTech student at IIT-Bombay, was found dead in his hostel room on September 18. His parents have alleged that he faced caste-based discrimination and harassment at the institute. Professor Doolla has been named in the FIR in connection with allegations of caste discrimination and abetment to suicide. He has been sent on leave while the investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, has recorded statements of around 40 people, including Sahil’s parents and fellow students. Investigators are also carrying out forensic examination of four electronic devices as part of the probe.
IIT-Bombay has separately constituted a 10-member committee to inquire into the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s death. A section of students at the institute has questioned the composition of the committee and demanded an independent inquiry.
