Schools in several parts of India are facing disruptions on Friday, October 30, 2026, due to examination-related arrangements and unsettled weather conditions. In Uttar Pradesh, schools up to Class 12 in 60 districts are scheduled to remain closed because of the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026.

Meanwhile, the effects of Cyclone Arnab have brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of eastern India. However, school closures in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand have largely been reported for October 28 and 29. Parents should check fresh district-level orders before assuming that schools will remain closed on October 30.

UP School Holiday on October 30 Due to PET 2026

The Uttar Pradesh administration has announced school closures in 60 districts in connection with the UPSSSC PET 2026 exam. The decision is aimed at facilitating examination arrangements and managing the movement of candidates and accompanying family members.

According to reports, 35,41,297 candidates have registered for the examination, which is being conducted at 1,372 centres across 60 districts.

The large number of candidates is expected to increase traffic and put pressure on local transport services. Keeping these logistical requirements in mind, authorities have directed schools up to Class 12 in the affected districts to suspend regular academic activities on October 30.

The exam is being conducted in two shifts. The first shift is scheduled from 10 am to noon, while the second shift will take place from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Although regular classes have been suspended in the affected Uttar Pradesh districts, teachers and other school staff may still be required to report for duty.

Several educational institutions are being used as exam centres for PET 2026. Staff members may be assigned responsibilities related to examination arrangements, including seating plans, CCTV monitoring and maintaining examination security.

School Holidays Due To Cyclone Arnab

Cyclone Arnab has affected weather conditions across parts of eastern India, bringing rainfall and strong winds. Authorities in several districts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand had announced precautionary school closures earlier in the week.

However, these orders do not automatically apply to October 30. Any extension of the holiday will depend on fresh instructions from the respective district administrations.

Parents are advised to confirm school holiday announcements directly with their respective institutions, particularly in districts where examination and weather-related arrangements may affect regular classes.
