Star India and Bengaluru FC forward Sunil Chhetri on Saturday, May 9, became the most-capped player in the history of the Indian Super League, as his team registered a 1-0 win against Jamshedpur FC.
A first-half goal from Ryan Williams in the 38th minute proved enough to settle the contest, with Jamshedpur controlling large periods of the match but failing to find the equaliser.
The 41-year-old Chhetri, who started on the bench, came on in the 85th minute in place of Namgyal Bhutia to become the most-capped footballer in Indian Super League history with 195 appearances.

The victory over Jamshedpur lifted Bengaluru to fourth in the Indian Super League standings with 20 points from 12 games, while Jamshedpur stayed third on 21 points, level with table-toppers East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Bengaluru made a bright start, earning a series of early corners and putting the Jamshedpur defence under pressure, though Sarthak Golui and Pratik Chaudhari held firm at the back.
The visitors continued to probe, with Braian Sánchez and Sirojiddin Kuziev both attempting efforts from distance, though neither troubled Albino Gomes.
Jamshedpur settled into the match, with Madih Talal pulling the strings in attack. He linked up well with Nikola Stanković and Sanan Mohammed to create the Red Miners’ first clear opening in the 15th minute, when Raphael Messi Bouli tested Gurpreet Singh Sandhu with a powerful long-range strike.
The match soon turned into an end-to-end affair, with both teams looking threatening in the attacking third but lacking the finishing touch. Jamshedpur believed they had gone ahead midway through the first half when Chaudhari steered the ball into the net from a set-piece, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.
