Egyptian Minister of Transport and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development Lt. Gen. Kamel El-Wazir held talks with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Mark Mitchell.
The US and Egypt discussed expanding cooperation in transport and logistics on the sidelines of a recent forum in Cairo.
Egypt outlined opportunities for US firms to operate port terminals, attract American shipping lines and set up joint industrial and logistics zones near terminals to manufacture goods for export to the US and position Egypt as a hub for the US industry in the region.

Proposed projects include the operation and maintenance of a major container terminal at Alexandria’s El-Mex Port, a general cargo terminal at Damietta Port, the establishment of a commercial shipyard in Damietta and the development of an iron ore reception terminal at Adabiya Port.
“Through private-sector investment and technical partnerships, the United States seeks to strengthen bilateral trade, support Egypt’s economic growth, and create unique opportunities for increased prosperity in both countries,” the US Embassy said in a release.
El-Wazir also highlighted investment opportunities at Gargoub Port and potential cooperation in electric traction and international transport corridors, stressing their importance in supporting global trade and consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional transport, logistics and transit hub.
Mitchell said the next phase would involve coordinating with interested US companies to identify projects that could be implemented in line with the priorities of both sides.
The forum highlighted US efforts to ensure Egypt benefits from American innovation and expertise globally by connecting leading American companies with opportunities in data, cloud, maritime and logistics sectors.
