Vietnam unveils project to capitalise on RCEP

Vietnam recently launched a project on digital trade and private sector engagement to boost utilisation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest free trade area.

The launch event in Hanoi was organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) support programme.

Vietnam recently launched a project on digital trade and private sector engagement to boost utilisation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest free trade area.
The project seeks to strengthen capacity and support for Vietnamese businesses, especially those of micro, small and medium enterprises, enabling them to capitalise on opportunities provided by RCEP.

It introduced the project’s objectives and key activities, providing a platform for government authorities, business support organisations, industry associations and the business community to exchange views on RCEP implementation in Vietnam.

RCEP, signed in November 2020 between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, covers 2.3 billion consumers, approximately 30 per cent of global GDP.

Its membership has turned a key driver for the country to expand export markets and deepen international economic integration.

Vietnam’s exports to RCEP markets reached $172 billion in 2025, up 30 per cent compared to 2021.

The newly-launched project seeks to strengthen capacity and support for Vietnamese businesses, especially those of micro, small and medium enterprises, enabling them to capitalise on opportunities provided by RCEP, according to domestic media reports.

It also aims at promoting participation of women-owned businesses, rural enterprises and businesses inclusive of people with disabilities, thus ensuring inclusivity and sustainability throughout the process.
