Cam Ward had barely reached the podium after the Tennessee Titans’ 24-18 loss to the Baltimore Ravens when his patience became the story. Reporters were speaking with players inside the locker room, leaving Ward waiting at his postgame news conference. The quarterback then warned that he would leave if the wait crossed three minutes, even tapping his fingers on the podium. With Tennessee falling to 0-4, the moment drew criticism from NFL fans, who questioned Ward’s attitude after another difficult afternoon.

Cam Ward faces backlash after postgame presser

Ward’s decision to stay at the podium did little to stop the criticism. A video of the incident circulated online, with fans calling the quarterback arrogant, immature and entitled.

One fan wrote, “You have done… NOTHING! This is how you get benched,” while another said Ward would not have to worry about the podium for long if he continued down that path. Not everyone saw the moment the same way. One fan pointed out that Ward had simply endured a long day and wanted to leave, while another suggested he should “walk out and practice.”

The reaction came after a frustrating start for the second-year quarterback and the Titans, who had yet to win a game. The timing made the scene harder for Ward to avoid. Just days earlier, he had spoken about threatening messages sent to his family by angry Tennessee fans. Ward said his family understood the position he was in and believed better football would quiet much of the criticism.

Cam Ward took responsibility for mistake against Ravens

The press conference also gave Ward a chance to address the play that put Tennessee behind early. His pass intended for Tony Pollard was intercepted by Ravens linebacker Trenton Simpson on the Titans’ opening possession.

Ward did not shift the blame to Pollard. Instead, he said he could have made the throw easier for the running back and admitted that both players would want the play back. The mistake helped Baltimore build a 24-7 halftime lead.

Tennessee fought back after halftime, holding the Ravens scoreless while adding 11 points. Ward finished with 222 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, while rookie receiver Carnell Tate gave the offense a major boost with nine catches for 145 yards. Ward said the Titans needed to be more critical of their mistakes and find ways to limit them. Tennessee will get its next chance against the Houston Texans, another winless team, when the Titans return home in Week 5.
