Ministry of Education grants LoAs to University of Bristol, University of York and University of New South Wales to open India campuses, boosting NEP 2020 vision.

The Ministry of Education on Tuesday announced that two universities from the United Kingdom and one from Australia have been granted Letters of Approval (LoAs) to establish campuses in India .
The ministry said the move will help in strengthen the country’s bid to becoming a global education hub unde the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a post on X, the government said: “The Ministry of Education today issued three Letters of Approval (LoAs) to three globally reputed Foreign Higher Education Institutions, namely, the University of Bristol, the University of York and the University of New South Wales.”

The letters were handed over by Vineet Joshi, Secretary of Department of Higher Education and Chairman, University Grants Commission, in the presence of Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan.
The event was attended by Executive Dean and Director, University of Bristol, Ms. Michelle Jones; Vice-Chancellor, University of York, Professor Charlie Jeffery and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education and Student Experience, University of New South Wales, Professor Sarah Maddison.
“Under #NEP2020, India is advancing ‘internationalisation at home’ by welcoming leading global universities while also enabling Indian institutions to expand globally,” the ministry said.
“With campuses in Mumbai and Bengaluru, these institutions will connect global education with India’s leading knowledge, technology and innovation hotspots,” it added.
The ministry said the global universities will courses in AI, cybersecurity, data science, finance, entrepreneurship, creative industries, immersive arts, renewable energy, health, transport, and education technology.
The University of Bristol will establish its Mumbai Enterprise Campus, with proposed programmes in areas including Immersive Arts, Finance, Data Science, Economics, Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The University of York will establish its first overseas campus in Mumbai, with proposed programmes in areas such as Finance, Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Business, Economics, Creative Industries and Management.
The University of New South Wales will establish UNSW Bengaluru, scheduled to open from August 2026 at Manyata Business Park, Bengaluru. The campus will offer programmes in areas including Business, Computer Science and Cyber Security, while also enabling deeper engagement with India in areas such as renewable energy, health, transport and education
“This milestone reflects growing global trust in India’s higher education ecosystem and strengthens the vision of making India a global knowledge hub, powering youth aspirations and the goal of Viksit Bharat,” it said.
